Our History

Mountain Waves Healing Arts was inspired by the successful practices of Paul Kulpinski, LMT (massage and bodywork) and Roxanne Witte, PhD (psychotherapy).    Paul started building a full-time bodywork practice in 1999 by seeing clients in their home, serving clients at the Flagstaff Athletic Club and working with elite world-class athletes during their visits at the Center for Altitude Training at Northern Arizona University.  By the end of his first year in practice, he took up residence in an office on Verde Street in downtown Flagstaff, where he met Dr. Witte.

Dr. Roxanne Witte is a psychotherapist with practice specialties in women's issues, trauma resolution and working with people seeking an integrative, holistic approach to wellness.  In 1995, the call of the mountains and the desire to lead a slower pace of life brought her and her family to Flagstaff from Phoenix.  Roxanne established an office in the New Leaf Wellness Building on Verde Street where she met Paul.

While in the same office building for the better part of three years, they collaborated with several clients who benefited from the integrated mind-body approach they provided there.  By 2004, Paul’s practice had outgrown the space available on Verde Street.  His plans to add hydrotherapy and the desire to begin exploration of the mind-body-spirit connection for his clients necessitated his relocation to a larger office on Fourth Street.  There he re-established his practice as Mountain Waves Massage & Bodywork.

About that same time, he and Roxanne began initial discussions about creating a space for clients that would provide a space for clients to achieve awareness of the relationship between their mind, body and spirit and to gain understanding of what to do with that new awareness.   By the summer of 2006, the idea of Mountain Waves Healing Arts was born.   They then invited several other successful holistic healthcare practitioners to participate in this symbiotic structure in order to provide clients with "one-stop" access to multi-disciplinary professionals and services.

It would still take another six months to secure their present location in the Greenlaw Professional Building on Greenlaw Lane and another six months to remodel the 3300 square foot facility that includes a 950 square foot class room/studio for yoga, tai chi, qi gong, pilates, meditation and various workshops, a twelve foot round swimming pool for AquaZaé, our form of aquatic bodywork.   While we opened our doors in June 2007, we are still at the formative phase of creating the healing environment that is ultimately possible at Mountain Waves.

In addition to psychotherapy, massage, aquatic bodywork, and classes, Mountain Waves Healing Arts also provides play therapy, family therapy, shamanic/energetic therapies, and hydrotherapy that includes exfoliating salt scrubs, detoxifying seaweed body wraps, and mineralizing mud therapy.  Over time, we envision that the continuum of services provided at Mountain Waves will evolve and change to fit the ever-changing needs of our clients.
